Tensions have risen following Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on India, leading to a unified front of criticism from China. The Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, expressed disapproval with the message, ‘Give the bully an inch, he will take a mile,’ reflecting China’s stance against the tariffs. A shared post further elaborated on this position, quoting a discussion between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Brazilian President Lula’s advisor, Celso Amorim, who condemned the use of tariffs as a means of coercion, viewing it as a breach of the UN Charter and a threat to the World Trade Organization. Trump’s overall tariffs against India are set at 50%, a move predicted to harm the Indian economy and also trigger inflationary pressures in the United States. This policy is predicted to hurt America and create the lowest job creation in fifteen years.
