The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has introduced a ban on caste-based rallies, programs, and public gatherings. The new directive also mandates the removal of caste information from police FIRs, arrest memos, public spaces, and official documents. This decision has led to significant controversy. Caste-based organizations and opposition parties have criticized the move, and internal opposition is developing within the NDA.
Sanjay Nishad, the National President of the Nishad Party and a cabinet minister, has publicly opposed the government’s decision. He is urging the government to seek recourse through the Supreme Court or to find another solution. Nishad believes that prohibiting caste-related programs is the wrong approach and plans to write letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership to express his concerns.
