
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has responded to the deaths of children in Chhindwara, reportedly linked to a cough syrup, by banning the sale of Coldrif within the state. The incident has caused significant distress, with many of the affected children being under five years old. CM Yadav conveyed his condolences and stated that the ban on Coldrif also includes a prohibition on other products from the same pharmaceutical company.
The health crisis involved children falling ill after consuming the cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The situation resulted in 12 fatalities. The Madhya Pradesh government initiated testing of the syrup to understand the cause of the illnesses.
CM Mohan Yadav shared a post online expressing his sorrow regarding the tragic deaths in Chhindwara related to the Coldrif syrup. He confirmed that the sale of this syrup has been banned across Madhya Pradesh, along with a ban on the company’s other products. The factory producing the syrup is situated in Kanchipuram, prompting the state government to request an investigation by the Tamil Nadu government. The investigation’s findings led to immediate action. Local-level investigations and a state-level team were formed to ensure a thorough investigation and to hold those responsible accountable.
State Minister Vishwas Sarang Singh elaborated on the government’s actions, confirming the ban on Coldrif cough syrup, as directed by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The decision followed the investigation’s results. He further stated that any medication with adverse effects on patients will be prohibited from being sold in Madhya Pradesh. He also emphasized that strict measures would be taken against those implicated in the incident.
