A major change in the security protocol for the Vice President has been initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will now be responsible for the Vice President’s security, including his residence, accommodations, the surrounding areas, and mobile security. This represents a shift from the previous arrangement where the Delhi Police held full responsibility. The Delhi Police’s role is now primarily limited to controlling access and providing security outside the Vice President’s residence.
The Ministry of Home Affairs communicated this decision to the CRPF through an official advisory. This advisory instructed the CRPF to implement the Vice President’s security measures according to the guidelines established in the Blue Book 2025 and to keep the Ministry informed.
The advisory specified that the CRPF would take charge of all aspects of the Vice President’s security as outlined in the Blue Book-2025, including protection at his residence, places of stay, and during his movements. The Delhi Police will focus on managing access and security around the immediate vicinity of the residence.
The Vice President is provided with Z+ security, the highest level of protection available in India. This security detail typically involves approximately 50 personnel working in shifts. They are responsible for providing comprehensive protection to the Vice President’s residence and motorcade. This is the second most significant security cover in the country, following the SPG protection for the Prime Minister and their family.
The Blue Book is a crucial document published by the Ministry of Home Affairs, containing detailed security guidelines for the President, Vice President, and Prime Minister. These guidelines determine the security arrangements for all VVIPs. The Blue Book provides specific information on the number of security personnel assigned and the protocols they are required to follow.
It is noteworthy that CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 15th Vice President on Tuesday. He secured 452 votes in the election, while the opposing candidate, B. Sudarshan Reddy, obtained 300 votes.
