The Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi has confirmed the death of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik. He passed away at 1:10 pm on Tuesday due to a prolonged illness. The announcement was confirmed by the hospital and Malik’s PS, KS Rana. Malik served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019. A key event during his tenure was the repeal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, an event whose sixth anniversary is being marked today. Malik’s career included governorships in Goa and Meghalaya, concluding in October 2022. He began his political journey in the 1970s as a socialist leader. In 1974, he was elected as an MLA from Baghpat representing the Bharatiya Kranti Dal. He later held the position of general secretary of the Lok Dal and represented Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1989.
