
Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Defence Secretary, acknowledged the effective use of a blend of foreign and indigenous weaponry by the Indian Armed Forces in Operation Sindoor, which was aimed at terrorist sites in Pakistan. He specifically cited the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile as a transformative element in the operation. Singh emphasized the successful integration and coordinated use of different weapon systems. The Defence Secretary highlighted the commendable performance of Indian-made weapons such as BrahMos and Akash, along with advancements in air defense systems to counter aerial threats like drones. The Defence Secretary also stated that the Indian Armed Forces were well-prepared and confident in their capacity. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Furthermore, Singh provided details about the expansion of the defense modernization budget, the difficulties in utilizing allocated funds, and the surge in contract signings, thus indicating the substantial growth of India’s defense production, particularly post the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
