The Delhi government has temporarily suspended its plan to restrict fuel for End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles in the capital. This decision was communicated by Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The primary reason cited was the unreliability of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. The ANPR system, designed to enforce the ban, has been experiencing numerous technical difficulties, including hardware failures and software integration problems. The lack of the implementation of the ban in other NCR regions like Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad was also a key point in the decision. Political reactions included criticism from former Delhi CM Atishi, while a vehicle owner expressed approval for the initiative, regardless of the temporary pause.
