The Delhi High Court has asserted that dogs, considered humans’ best friends, deserve kind treatment. The court’s comments were made in the context of addressing issues related to stray dogs in Delhi. Justice Mini Pushkarna has ordered officials and stakeholders to offer proposals for the rehabilitation of stray canines, focusing on lessening confrontations between humans and dogs.
The court underscored that dogs, being among the most cherished animals globally, warrant protection and respect. The court also addressed the issue of a temporary shelter housing over 200 dogs, which the MCD planned to demolish, potentially displacing the animals. Additionally, the court noted the closure of 78 veterinary hospitals and directed the Chief Secretary to arrange for institutional rehabilitation of the stray dogs.
