
With heightened security measures in place across Delhi in anticipation of Independence Day, the Supreme Court is set to address several important cases. The court will hear the stray dog case today, in the context of protests against the earlier court orders. Chief Justice Gavai has formed a special bench of three justices to address the matter, including Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and N.V. Anjaria. The previous order by Justices Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan had mandated the capture and relocation of dogs to shelters. The Supreme Court is also scheduled to hear the SIR case today. The court had previously stated that SIR is not against voters and the court warned against defaming Bihar. The court has determined that only 11 documents are valid in SIR. Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer will withdraw his plea on Thursday, in which a threat to the leader’s life was suggested. On the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation.
