In a significant bust, Delhi Customs officers apprehended an Air India passenger arriving from Dubai with gold valued at Rs 20 lakh. The arrest took place on October 25 at IGI Airport. The passenger’s attempt to use the green channel, typically for travelers with nothing to declare, raised suspicion. Authorities closely observed the individual and intercepted them for a detailed examination.
X-ray scans of the passenger’s luggage revealed irregularities, leading to the discovery of a gold piece concealed ingeniously under the cap of a plastic water bottle. A total of 170 grams of gold, estimated to be worth around Rs 20 lakh, was confiscated. This method of concealment demonstrates the lengths smugglers will go to, but airport security remains steadfast in its mission to prevent such activities.
