The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has declared the reopening of eight tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley. This decision follows a temporary closure due to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. LG Sinha confirmed that the decision to reopen was based on a careful assessment of the security situation.
Approximately 48 tourist spots were closed earlier as a precaution to ensure the safety of tourists. The initial phase of reopening will include areas within Anantnag District such as Betab Valley, Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal Gardens, along with parks in the Pahalgam market. In Srinagar, Badamwari, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also be welcoming visitors.
LG Sinha also expressed his hopes that the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra will be crucial in reviving tourism in Kashmir. He urged the public to take part in the annual pilgrimage to support the local economy and tourism. The reopening is a positive step toward restoring Kashmir’s appeal as a leading tourist destination, encouraging visits from both local and national tourists.
