In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, the Election Commission is actively monitoring political parties. The commission has issued a list of registered, unrecognized political parties and has asked for their explanations. The commission has also set a date for this action.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s statement specifies that registered unrecognized political parties that haven’t contested any elections since 2019 are the subject of this inquiry. Despite being registered and receiving benefits under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, these parties are now under scrutiny. The commission has clarified that it will issue show-cause notices to these parties and may delist them after reviewing their explanations.
The commission has directed all these political parties to appear before the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar by 3 p.m. on September 1st to present their stance. They must also provide supporting evidence for the report to be sent to the Election Commission of India.
