Delhi’s metropolitan rail service has adopted new station names, marking a significant update for commuters. On November 16th, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the revised identities for three metro stations, aiming to provide a stronger local connection and facilitate easier travel. The familiar Pitampura Metro Station will now be recognized as Madhuban Chowk Metro Station. This rebranding effort is intended to offer clearer geographic cues to passengers. Two stations under construction will also bear new names: one near VIPS College will be called Haiderpur Metro Station, and the northern Pitampura station in Q-Block is now Uttari Pitampura-Prashant Vihar Metro Station. The impetus for these changes stemmed from appeals by local residents, especially those in Haiderpur, who advocated for station names that acknowledge their village’s historical presence. The ceremony in Haiderpur was also a poignant occasion, marking the arrival of the Rezang La Shaheed Raj Kalash Yatra, a procession honoring the bravery of soldiers in the Rezang La battle. The Chief Minister expressed her reverence for the martyrs and the significance of the yatra’s presence. Furthermore, she highlighted planned infrastructure enhancements, including road upgrades and an underpass, to bolster the region’s growth and improve daily commutes.
