A recent incident in Navi Mumbai underscores the potential for error in navigation apps. A driver, using Google Maps, followed directions that led her car directly into a ditch near Belapur. The incident occurred on Friday morning when the driver was traveling from Belapur to Ulwe. Instead of using the intended route across the Bay Bridge, the app directed the vehicle along an alternate path, culminating in the car entering the water at Dhruvatara Jetty. Quick action by security officials resulted in the driver’s rescue, without any injuries. The vehicle was subsequently recovered.
This event is part of a concerning trend. There have been previous reports of serious accidents linked to Google Maps errors, including a fatal bridge collapse in Faridpur.
