The Indian government has authorized the purchase of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets, a move that will benefit the Indian Air Force. The final approval for this acquisition was granted during a high-level meeting on August 19th. This decision will allow Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to commence production of the aircraft. This order adds to the previous order of 83 LCA Mark 1A fighters, with a cost of approximately Rs 48,000 crore. This initiative supports the Indian Air Force’s plan to replace its MiG-21 fleet, which is due to be phased out shortly. This program, endorsed by the Defence Ministry and Air Headquarters, is expected to boost indigenous defense manufacturing and provide business to small and medium enterprises involved in defense across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration is driving the resurgence of HAL, which has received orders for various indigenous aircraft, helicopter and engine projects.
