Asaduddin Owaisi, the AIMIM chief, has voiced his discontent with the Indian government’s foreign policy in response to the US’s new H-1B visa policies under President Trump. The revised policies, including the imposition of a hefty annual fee, have drawn sharp criticism from Owaisi, who questioned the outcomes of initiatives like ‘Howdy Modi’ and ‘Namaste Trump’. He pointed out the importance of H-1B visas for Indian tech workers, particularly those from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and the substantial financial contributions they make through remittances. Owaisi criticized the Indian government’s approach to the US, implying that India’s strategic standing had been undermined. He further called for a more robust foreign policy, including using rupee-based trade agreements with other countries to resist American pressure. Owaisi argued that the negative impacts of these policies would primarily be felt by the average Indian citizen.
