An alleged suicide note by IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, found at his Chandigarh residence on October 7th, has placed Haryana’s police leadership under intense scrutiny. The note reportedly names eight senior officials, including DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, accusing them of profound caste-based discrimination, persistent mental torture, and public humiliation. This has led to DGP Kapur being sent on leave as investigations commence. The gravity of these allegations has sparked significant public outrage and calls for an independent inquiry. In response, the Haryana government has mandated a state-wide high alert, directing all senior officials to maintain strict vigil, ensure communal harmony, and foster coordination with local stakeholders. This precautionary measure aims to prevent any unrest amidst the sensitive situation. The official circular stresses the “urgent need to maintain strict vigil and ensure communal harmony.” The Governor has appointed Sh. Om Parkash Singh to oversee the DGP’s responsibilities on an interim basis, as the state grapples with the fallout from this deeply disturbing incident. The case has also drawn the attention of national political figures, highlighting the broader implications of the alleged discrimination.
