Delhi-NCR experienced intense rainfall on Thursday, leading to the disruption of numerous Ravan Dahan ceremonies and other Vijayadashami events. The downpour caused damage to the stage structures and rendered the effigies of Ravana wet, leading to the cancellation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled Ravan Dahan program.
The rain, which began in the morning, continued throughout the day, leading to widespread disappointment. Many people had arrived at Ramlila grounds and other venues to witness the festivities. Prime Minister Modi was planning to attend the event in IP Extension. The program was scheduled to commence around 6 PM in the Patparganj area. The organizers had to cancel the event due to the adverse weather conditions.
President Droupadi Murmu attended the Vijayadashami celebrations organized by Shri Dharmik Lila Committee at the Red Fort in Delhi. She performed the symbolic act of shooting an arrow to burn the effigy of Ravana. She emphasized the triumph of good over evil and hailed the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor as a victory over terrorism. Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi also had to cancel her visit. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s participation in the Vijayadashami celebrations in Pitampura was also affected by the rain.
