Significant rainfall has triggered chaos across parts of central and northern India, leading to extensive traffic congestion and severe waterlogging. Himachal Pradesh has been especially hard-hit, with cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides significantly disrupting daily life. The death toll in Himachal due to rain-related incidents has reached at least 69. The IMD has announced red and orange alerts for several states, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Specific alerts include a red alert for Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and an orange alert for Jharkhand, Haryana, and Mumbai. The weather forecast also includes predictions for torrential rains in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Rajasthan. In Himachal’s Mandi district, the combination of sultry weather, intense rainfall, and landslides has created difficult conditions, including road closures.
The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir over the next 48 hours. The southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over the western Himalayan region and the plains for the next seven days. Residents are urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to stay safe during these weather events. It’s crucial to stay informed about the IMD’s weather bulletins, seek shelter in safe places, avoid non-essential travel, and stay away from potential electrical hazards.
