Authorities have cracked a complex honour killing case, bringing to justice two brothers accused of murdering their sister and her husband. The young couple, hailing from Bihar, were found deceased in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, concluding a multi-state investigation that involved Gujarat and Bihar.
The victims, a 19-year-old woman and her 22-year-old husband, Dukhan Shaw, had eloped earlier this year and married against their families’ wishes. They had established a life together in Valsad, Gujarat. Their disappearance in September led to a complaint lodged by Shaw’s brother, who suspected foul play by the woman’s family.
Weeks prior, a body was discovered in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, bearing injuries consistent with a violent death. The challenging geographical location of Sonbhadra, sharing borders with several states, complicated the initial identification process. The investigation gained momentum when Gujarat police reached out to Sonbhadra authorities to cross-reference their missing persons case.
This inter-state collaboration allowed investigators to piece together the couple’s movements, indicating they had traveled from Gujarat towards Uttar Pradesh and intended to return to Bihar. The identification of the woman’s body by her husband’s family and subsequent confirmation from Bihar police about the family’s opposition to the union proved instrumental. The arrested brothers, identified as Munna Kumar and Rahul alias Siddharth, have confessed to their involvement in the murders and aided in the recovery of both bodies. The search for two other brothers, Mukesh and Rakesh, remains active.
