The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action in Goa, exposing an illegal foreign currency trading operation within the Mapusa Municipal Market. A raid conducted on September 26, 2025, targeted the Loja Shamu shop, leading to the seizure of significant quantities of foreign and Indian currency, along with relevant documents and digital evidence. The ED’s investigation began after Goa Airport Customs intercepted approximately $35,000 USD, equivalent to approximately 29 lakh rupees, in foreign currency. This seizure led to the discovery of connections to an illicit forex network in the Mapusa Market, leading the ED to launch an investigation. During the raid, authorities recovered approximately 3 lakh in foreign currency, 13 lakh in Indian cash, chat records of illegal transactions, and two mobile phones.
