The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed multiple states on alert due to the ongoing heavy rainfall, which is causing significant disruption, including traffic problems. Following heavy rain, Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nagpur, Maharashtra, are experiencing issues related to waterlogging. The IMD expects an active monsoon over Central India for the next four to five days.
Isolated, extremely heavy rainfall is forecast for Madhya Pradesh from July 9 to 14; Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on July 9 and 10; West Bengal and Jharkhand on July 9; and Odisha on July 9, 13, and 14. Other areas facing similar weather conditions include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, and East Rajasthan.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nagpur has warned of potential moderate flash floods in certain watershed areas and surrounding localities in the coming hours. Gondia, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Amravati, Bhandara, and Chandrapur are expected to be affected. Many agricultural regions have been severely affected by the incessant rainfall, leading to crop destruction.
Furthermore, heavy rains are anticipated in Konkan, Goa, the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra, Kutch, and the Gujarat region over the next 24 hours. The northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh are also urged to closely monitor the IMD’s weather bulletins, as significant rainfall is expected between July 9 and 14.
