The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) across several parts of the country this week, with a specific focus on Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh. A “Red Colour Warning” has been issued by the IMD, indicating hazardous weather conditions, although it’s important to note that this does not represent a “Red Alert.”
Very heavy rainfall is expected in certain areas of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala on July 18. Rajasthan and South Interior Karnataka are also anticipated to receive heavy rainfall on the same day. Kerala is further expected to experience torrential rain on July 19 and 20.
From July 18 to 23, heavy to very heavy rains are predicted for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in North India. Uttarakhand is likely to witness particularly intense rainfall between July 18 and 20, and again from July 23.
In East and Central India, active weather is expected, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Continuous rainfall is also anticipated in parts of the Konkan coast, Goa, and Maharashtra. Strong winds, with speeds of 40–50 kmph, are expected over peninsular areas of South India for the next five days.
