The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in several states on July 21, as monsoon rains continue to affect the country. A monsoon trough originating from a low-pressure area over west Rajasthan is influencing the weather across northern India. This weather pattern is expected to bring relief from the hot and humid weather.
Specific areas under alert include Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, which are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall. Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, West Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana are also forecast to experience heavy rainfall. In West India, Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra will likely be lashed by heavy rain, with Marathwada also expecting heavy showers.
South India faces the prospect of heavy to very heavy rain in Kerala, Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Heavy rain is anticipated in Bengaluru, Kolar, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara and Tumakuru districts.
Strong surface winds are predicted for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana. The southwest monsoon is normal in Karnataka. In East and Central India, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Bihar are also expected to see heavy rain.
The Northeast, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, will experience heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms likely across the region. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will also receive rainfall. The IMD anticipates light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for the next seven days. An orange alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh.
For Delhi-NCR, increased rainfall activity is predicted this week. Very light rain is anticipated on Monday, with cloudy skies prevailing throughout the day.
