The Department of Consumer Affairs held a Round Table Conference in New Delhi, centered around the ‘One Nation, One Time’ vision. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the importance of the Time Dissemination Project. The project, in collaboration with CSIR-NPL and ISRO, seeks to synchronize all legal, commercial, and administrative activities with Indian Standard Time (IST) through the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2025. The initiative aims to deliver highly accurate IST across key sectors such as financial markets, power grids, and telecommunications. This precision will be achieved using five Regional Reference Standard Laboratories (RRSLs) equipped with atomic clocks and secure synchronization systems. The conference underscored the necessity of an indigenous and verifiable time standard. The project stems from extensive inter-ministerial coordination and technical consultations. It is expected to facilitate more secure digital transactions, accurate billing, and a reduction in cybercrime risks, ensuring fairness and transparency in daily services. The conference saw the participation of a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from government ministries, public, and private sector organizations.
