
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Maldives included a meeting with a range of political figures, showcasing the widespread support for the long-standing friendship between India and the Maldives. Modi pointed out how mutual values continue to strengthen the partnership. He met with key figures including the Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed. The creation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group was celebrated. Modi reiterated the Maldives’ importance in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and its broader vision. Discussions with Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef addressed vital areas such as technology, infrastructure, and climate change. Modi was in the Maldives at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu. At a banquet, PM Modi highlighted the historical depth of the relationship. President Muizzu emphasized India as a trusted partner, with strong collaboration across numerous sectors. Several agreements were finalized, including those related to finance, fisheries, digital initiatives, and the UPI system.
