Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted warmly in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, during a roadshow in his Lok Sabha constituency. The roadshow took place from the Police Line to the Hotel Taj. The Prime Minister is scheduled to host the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, who is visiting India from September 9-16. Prior to the bilateral talks, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held discussions with Ramgoolam. Uttar Pradesh minister Dayashankar Mishra welcomed the meeting, emphasizing the potential for stronger relations between India and Mauritius. He underscored the significance of Mauritius, referring to it as a second India.
Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam previously visited Kashi, the cultural capital of India. The two leaders will engage in discussions aimed at strengthening ties. Ramgoolam received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Kashi on September 9. The meeting underscores the deep connections between the two nations.
The discussions will cover the breadth of cooperation, with an emphasis on development partnerships and capacity building. The leaders will explore opportunities for collaboration in health, education, science & technology, energy, infrastructure, and emerging sectors like renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy. This visit follows the ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’ established during PM Modi’s March 2025 visit to Mauritius. Mauritius, a close maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region, is central to India’s MAHASAGAR Vision and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. This cooperation is vital for both countries’ prosperity and the shared goals of the Global South. The Prime Minister will also be traveling to Dehradun later in the day for an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Uttarakhand, followed by a high-level review meeting.
