
India’s defense production has achieved a historic milestone in the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching unprecedented levels. The total defense production value has surged to 1,50,590 crore rupees. This represents an 18% increase compared to the previous year, and a remarkable 90% rise since 2019-20. The Defense Minister confirmed the achievement, recognizing the contributions of DPSUs, public sector companies, and private industries. He stated that this accomplishment is a clear indication of the ongoing strengthening of the country’s defense industrial structure. The Minister praised the collaborative efforts involved, labeling it a ‘historic achievement.’ He highlighted that the progress in defense production reflects India’s growing defense industrial strength. The public sector and DPSUs contributed significantly, accounting for 77% of the total production. The private sector’s contribution was 23%, a rise from 21% the previous year. This growth was driven by policy reforms, business-friendly measures, and the emphasis on domestic production. DPSUs saw a 16% production increase, while the private sector experienced a 28% rise this year. Defense exports have also hit a record high, reaching 23,622 crore rupees, exceeding the previous year by 2,539 crore rupees. The government is focused on diminishing import dependence and developing a defense industry that meets India’s needs and gains global recognition. In the fiscal year 2024-25, defense production reached its peak at 1,50,590 crore rupees, an 18 percent growth compared to the previous financial year 2023-24 which was 1.27 lakh crore rupees. In 2019-20, the figure was 79,071 crore rupees, reflecting a strong 90% increase within five years.
