The DRDO has successfully tested the Pralay missile twice in a row, enhancing India’s defence readiness. The tests were carried out from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, located off the coast of Odisha, with the Defence Minister’s office sharing the information on Tuesday. The tests, conducted on July 28 and 29, 2025, were crucial for assessing the missile’s operational parameters.
The Ministry of Defence reported that the missiles accurately followed their trajectories, successfully hitting their targets. All systems performed as anticipated, as evidenced by the data from tracking sensors and equipment on the test ship.
The Pralay missile is an indigenous, solid-fueled, quasi-ballistic missile, featuring an advanced guidance and navigation system and the capacity to carry multiple warheads. The system’s development involved the DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), supporting laboratories, and industry partners such as Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited.
The tests were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives of the Indian Air Force and Army, and industry partners. The Defence Minister commended DRDO, the armed forces, and industry for their achievements. He stated that this missile system will offer the army a vital technological edge. DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat acknowledged the success of the Phase-1 tests, which will facilitate the missile system’s quick induction into the Army.
