According to West Asia strategist Waiel Awwad, India has the potential to play an active role in ending the war between Iran and Israel. Discussing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Awwad emphasized the importance of India leveraging its position to calm tensions. He highlighted that the ongoing conflict could negatively affect India’s food and oil supplies, alongside impacting substantial Indian revenue generated in the region. Awwad cited India’s leadership status, evidenced by hosting the G20 summit, as a foundation for proactive involvement. Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern about the escalating situation and urged for immediate de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. The US and Israel are reported to have targeted Iranian nuclear facilities during the weekend. The Fordow facility, a primary site for uranium enrichment, was reportedly targeted using specialized bunker buster bombs. Former President Trump has warned of further actions if Iran does not pursue a satisfactory peace agreement.
