Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Semicon India-2025, a pivotal event designed to propel India’s semiconductor sector forward. The Prime Minister’s involvement will extend to Wednesday, including participation in a CEO roundtable session. The three-day conference is designed to nurture a strong, resilient, and sustainable semiconductor environment in India. The conference will feature sessions on a variety of topics including advancements in the Semicon India program, semiconductor fabrication and packaging projects, infrastructure development, smart manufacturing techniques, research, development, and artificial intelligence innovations, investment prospects, and the implementation of state-level policies. The event will showcase initiatives under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, the growth of the startup ecosystem, international cooperation, and the strategic direction of India’s semiconductor industry. The event will draw over 20,750 participants, including over 2,500 delegates from more than 48 countries, over 50 global leaders, more than 150 speakers, and over 350 exhibitors. Six countries will participate in roundtable discussions, and there will be country pavilions and specialized areas for workforce development and startups. Building on the Prime Minister’s goal to establish India as a major center for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technological advancement, previous conferences were held in Bengaluru in 2022, Gandhinagar in 2023, and Greater Noida in 2024. During his recent trip to Japan, Prime Minister Modi and Japan signed 21 significant agreements, particularly focusing on cooperation in the semiconductor and AI sectors. During the visit, PM Modi visited the Tokyo Electron semiconductor plant, and both countries resolved to strengthen strategic partnerships in advanced technology. Japan is recognized as a global leader in semiconductor equipment and materials. A part of the India-Japan agreement is the transfer of Japanese older technologies to India to reduce dependence on China and boost economic security.
