Mangat Singh, a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan, has been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI. The 32-year-old was allegedly compromised by a female Pakistani handler, operating under the name ‘Isha Sharma,’ who used a honey trap to recruit him. The arrest was executed by the Rajasthan CID Intelligence under the Official Secrets Act.
Intelligence operatives flagged Singh’s suspicious movements in the vicinity of Alwar’s cantonment area, leading to an intensive surveillance operation. The investigation revealed that Singh had been in contact with ISI agents for approximately two years, primarily through social media, and was allegedly offered financial compensation for providing sensitive information pertaining to India’s security.
This action is part of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a significant counter-espionage effort by Rajasthan Intelligence focusing on strategically vital areas like Alwar, a region with considerable geopolitical significance due to its NCR status. The vigilant monitoring of sensitive zones, especially cantonment areas, has been instrumental in identifying and apprehending such individuals.
The formal complaint was lodged at the Special Police Station in Jaipur, resulting in Singh’s immediate arrest. This operation reinforces the state police’s commitment to dismantling foreign intelligence networks. It follows recent apprehensions of other suspected spies in Rajasthan, including Mahendra Prasad and Hanif Khan, both implicated in leaking defense and army-related secrets to Pakistani handlers.
