AAP leader Sanjay Singh is under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was made to prevent Singh from protesting the arrest of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik. Singh, a Lok Sabha MP from the AAP, had previously voiced strong criticism of Malik’s detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA), stating that it was illegal and violated the constitution. Singh, along with Imran Hussain, the AAP in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, was placed under house arrest in a guest house in Srinagar. His intention was to hold a press conference to address Malik’s arrest. Before he could do so, the police took action. Singh shared details of his house arrest on X (formerly Twitter). In a tweet, he mentioned that he was not allowed to meet with former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Singh stated that he believes that speaking out against injustice is essential in a democracy.
