In a testament to unity, a Hindu family in Hedum village, Chatra, Jharkhand, has been celebrating Muharram for the past 71 years. This unique tradition is upheld by the family of Kamakhya Singh Bhogta, despite the village’s exclusively Hindu population. The family’s observance extends beyond Muharram, encompassing celebrations of Ramadan, Eid, and Bakrid. The Muharram celebrations involve the entire village, with locals actively participating in Tazia preparation and the procession, which concludes with a fair at Kalyanpur Bazar Tand. The family’s history with this tradition is rooted in a tale of divine guidance, reflecting a deep-seated respect for diverse religious practices and community spirit.
