Premchand Sahu, the individual implicated in the murder of Saraswati Kumari, a minor residing in a live-in relationship, has been arrested by the police. The arrest took place on Saturday night in connection with the murder that occurred earlier that same day in Kumang village, under the Tapkara police station area. Torpa police inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, along with Tapkara police station in-charge Nitesh Kumar Gupta, detailed the arrest during a press conference held at the Torpa police station on Sunday. The accused, Premchand Sahu, is a resident of Malgo village within the Lapung police station jurisdiction in Ranchi. Authorities had received information suggesting the suspect’s attempt to flee via motorcycle.
Following the tip, a raid was conducted in the Torpa police station area, leading to his apprehension. The accused confessed to the murder of Saraswati Kumari during interrogation. Further investigation led to the recovery of the murder weapon (knife), motorcycle, ‘doli’, and mobile phone, all based on his statements. The team involved in the raid included Torpa Circle Police Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, Torpa police station in-charge Mukesh Kumar Hembram, Tapkara police station in-charge Nitesh Kumar Gupta, SI Shyamal Kumbhkar, and armed officers from both Torpa and Tapkara police stations. The police have placed him in judicial custody. The Tapkara police station in-charge addressed rumors circulating on social media, denying claims that Premchand Sahu had escaped while in custody and was later re-captured. He clarified that these reports are inaccurate.
