A serious accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand government by Babulal Marandi, the state BJP President and Leader of Opposition. He claims the government is actively creating new criminal incidents to distract from and conceal the extent of ongoing criminal activities. Marandi stated that the government and its systems have normalized the practice of fabricating offenses to hide reality. Recent actions by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Dhanbad coal sector have uncovered disturbing evidence. The most alarming aspect, according to Marandi, is the alleged instruction from senior police officers, allegedly enriched by the illicit coal trade, to ‘eliminate’ key figures within the mafia network. This alleged directive is seen as a desperate attempt to prevent crucial witnesses from cooperating with the ED and revealing the truth. Marandi reminisced about prior instances in Jharkhand where ‘evidence encounters’ were allegedly staged to prevent justice. He cited the example of a former DGP who was widely accused, even by ruling party members, of orchestrating killings for hire and setting new records for corruption. He advised the ED to be exceedingly careful, noting that in Jharkhand, suppression of truth is rewarded over its revelation. When the corridors of power, the established system, and criminal enterprises align, the subversion of justice becomes an almost inevitable outcome.
