The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly began its monsoon session by paying respects to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, former Education Minister Ramdas Soren, and other deceased figures. Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahto expressed his condolences, noting the passing of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, School Education Minister Ramdas Soren, and former Governor Satyapal Malik. Mahto stated that the departure of Dishom Guru marked the end of an era. Dishom Guru’s contributions to Jharkhand’s political, social, and cultural landscape would continue to guide the state towards equitable progress. The Speaker said that the death of the former Chief Minister and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren, marked the end of an era. However, the mass movement associated with him testified to the enduring legacy of Jharkhand. Dishom Guru was a major politician and a flag bearer of Jharkhandi identity and culture. He founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 1972, and later it took on the responsibility of building and developing Jharkhand. Understanding his significance without grasping the broader context of the Jharkhand statehood movement is impossible. Mahto added that Dishom Guru envisioned a comprehensive, autonomous, and development-oriented Jharkhand founded on Jharkhandi culture, advocating for inclusive development, coexistence, and a deep respect for nature. Ramdas Soren, a man of easygoing and social personality, was also remembered. The Assembly recognized Group Captain D.K. Parulkar, a hero of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Padma Shri Vinod Kumar Pasayat, a renowned playwright, poet, and lyricist, Satyapal Malik, former Governor of Goa, Bihar, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir and former Rajya Sabha MP, and senior journalist Harinarayan Singh. The House also paid respects to those who died in recent cloudbursts in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The Speaker then adjourned the proceedings until Monday morning.
