
Chaos erupted at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi after an MBA student was attacked on campus. The incident occurred Wednesday night when an unidentified individual harassed the student. Upon the student’s resistance, the attacker used a blade, causing injury. The student was immediately taken for medical attention. The incident sparked immediate protests from students, who gathered on campus late into the night. Despite the college administration’s attempts to mediate and the arrival of the local BIT OP police, the students continued their protest. In response to the attack, students have announced a class boycott for Thursday. Police from the BIT OP police station are also investigating the incident, speaking with the victim to gather more details. The incident occurred when the student was walking on the campus late Wednesday night. An unknown person entered the campus, initiated the harassment, and subsequently attacked the student with a blade after she resisted. Police are currently analyzing CCTV footage to identify the assailant. Established in 1955 by industrialist B.M. Birla, BIT Mesra is a distinguished institution. The institute, spanning approximately 780 acres, holds deemed university status from the UGC, along with accreditations from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). President Droupadi Murmu attended the 70th-anniversary celebrations, held on February 15th of this year.
