In Ranchi, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Rajesh Devgam, who is accused of aiding the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). The charges, filed in the special NIA court, relate to Devgam’s alleged possession of illegal weapons, extortion, and harboring members of the banned organization in Jharkhand. The NIA stated that Devgam, a resident of West Singhbhum, is charged under various laws, including the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The case originated from a local police investigation in March 2024, which involved the recovery of significant funds and materials linked to Misir Besra, a key figure in the CPI (Maoist). The NIA’s investigation, which began in July 2024, showed Devgam’s active role in terrorist activities, such as arranging meetings and extorting money from contractors and traders to support the CPI-Maoist.
