An incident involving an alleged assault on the wife and daughter-in-law of Babulal Marandi, the current Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly and former Chief Minister, has surfaced. The attack resulted in serious injuries to their driver. The incident took place at the Amrit Nagar Puja Pandal in Hazaribag. The police have filed a case and initiated an investigation, collecting evidence from CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.
Preeti Kisku, the daughter-in-law of Marandi, stated in her report that the incident occurred around 7:15 PM while they were traveling from Giridih to Ranchi. Their driver was severely injured during the event. It is reported that police officers were present at the scene, yet they did not intervene.
The incident began when the family’s vehicle was caught in the Durga immersion procession near the Amrit Nagar Puja Pandal. The driver asked the crowd to make way, which led to a confrontation. The driver was allegedly assaulted by some individuals present. When Preeti intervened, she faced verbal abuse and harassment.
Preeti Kisku is urging officials to take strong action against the Amrit Nagar Puja Committee members. Hazaribag police have registered a complaint and are actively investigating the matter. Babulal Marandi, who was the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand, served from November 2000 to March 2003. He established the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik), which later merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party. This reported assault raises questions about the security and the maintenance of law and order in the state.
