A grave accusation of attempting to hide criminal activities by fabricating new offenses has been leveled against the Jharkhand government by Babulal Marandi, the state’s opposition leader. Marandi contends that the government and its associated systems have normalized the creation of manufactured crimes to obscure deeper underlying issues. The recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) probes into the powerful coal nexus in Dhanbad have brought forth alarming evidence. A particularly dangerous development reported is that certain ‘senior police officials,’ reportedly benefiting from the illegal coal trade, have allegedly instructed their operatives within the coal mafia to ‘permanently eliminate’ their own subordinates. This sinister plot, according to Marandi, is aimed at preventing witnesses from cooperating with the ED and exposing the truth. He draws parallels to previous instances in the state where ‘evidence was encountered’ through staged killings of criminals. Marandi referenced a former DGP who faced widespread allegations of orchestrating contract killings and extreme corruption, even from within the ruling coalition. He strongly advised the ED to proceed with extreme caution, noting that the system favors silencing the truth rather than revealing it. He warned that when power, the system, and criminal enterprises become intertwined, justice is inevitably compromised.
