India is grappling with severe weather conditions as heavy rainfall continues to lash various regions. The capital city, Delhi, is facing a critical situation with the Yamuna River reaching a water level of 207.48 meters, exceeding the danger mark and nearing the record of 207.49 meters set in 1978.
Further adverse weather is expected, with forecasts anticipating thunderstorms and rain for the current day. September 5th is likely to bring cloudy skies with moderate rainfall, and the 6th and 7th are also expected to witness thunderstorms and rain. The 8th and 9th are predicted to remain cloudy.
The memories of the 1978 floods are resurfacing among older residents of Delhi, who recall the devastation caused by the Yamuna. Roads were submerged, and many affluent areas were flooded, forcing people to evacuate.
Emergency shelters are providing refuge for residents of low-lying areas such as Majnu Ka Tila, Madanpur Khadar, and Badarpur. The administration has taken steps to relocate people to safer locations and has closed the iron railway bridge to traffic.
