The selection process for an Anganwadi worker in Sukudih, a village in Dhanbad’s Topchanchi block, was cancelled following protests during a public meeting. The gathering, which took place in the tribal hamlet of Sukudih, under the Gungghasa Panchayat, was disrupted by an uproar. The decision to halt the selection came after the assessment of applications revealed a bias against tribal women. CDPO Mamta Sah announced the selection of a candidate from the OBC category. This triggered immediate objections from tribal women, prompting the CDPO to leave the meeting. Police intervention, led by Hariharpur police station in-charge Rahul Kumar Jha, was required to calm the situation. Villagers complained that while the Anganwadi primarily served children from their community, the selection process disregarded tribal applicants. Several local panchayat officials were also in attendance.
