A bizarre case of alleged theft has been brought to light by the Aazadnagar police in East Singhbhum, revealing that the person who reported the crime was, in fact, the perpetrator. The incident involved a supposed burglary at a residence on Bagan Shahi Road No. 7, with police confirming the resolution of the case in under 24 hours.
Investigations led to the arrest of Wakar Ahmed, the very individual who had filed a complaint claiming to be a victim of theft. He is now in police custody, and gold ornaments valued at around ₹1.50 lakh have been recovered from his possession.
The case was initiated by the City SP’s office, tasking Patamda DSP Bachan Dev Kujur with leading a special investigation unit. During interrogation, Wakar Ahmed’s conflicting statements and evasive answers prompted a more rigorous line of questioning. Under duress, he confessed to fabricating the entire incident. Ahmed stated that mounting financial difficulties and associated mental stress drove him to remove the gold jewelry himself from an almirah on the night of the 22nd. He then reported it as an external theft to seek financial assistance. The recovered items comprise a gold chain, four earrings, and a ring.
