Ranchi police conducted a raid on a girls’ hostel in the Lalpur area, leading to the exposure of a sex racket and the rescue of eight young women. The operation, spearheaded by City DSP K.V. Raman, was initiated after receiving intelligence about illicit activities taking place at the hostel. The intelligence, received by SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha, indicated that girls were being brought from West Bengal and other locations for immoral purposes. Following the raid at Om Girls Hostel, the eight women were detained. The police are actively pursuing the main perpetrator of the sex racket. City DSP K.V. Raman stated that the police acted on specific intelligence about girls from West Bengal and other areas being housed in the hostel. The police are investigating the rescued women, noting that some lacked proper documentation. This recent bust follows previous police actions targeting similar operations. In August 2024, a raid on Hotel Maurya in the Argora police station area resulted in the arrest of seven individuals, including five women. Furthermore, the police have conducted raids and made arrests in similar cases in the Lower Bazaar and Chutia police station areas.
