The Gumla municipal council’s attempt to clear encroachments from the Jashpur Road resulted in clashes and a subsequent road blockade. Vegetable vendors clashed with municipal council employees after an employee allegedly assaulted a woman vendor and her child during the removal of shops. The vendors retaliated, leading to a chaotic scene. Police intervention was required to protect the municipal staff. In response to the demolition of their shops, the vendors blocked the Ranchi-Chhattisgarh road, causing traffic to be snarled for several hours. The SDPO and Inspector negotiated with the protestors to end the blockade. A follow-up meeting was organized to address the concerns of the vendors and the municipal council.
