Sahibganj district is set to empower its farmers with the commencement of paddy procurement for the 2025-26 Kharif season. Over two dozen government procurement points are now active, offering farmers the opportunity to sell their paddy at a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2450 per quintal, which includes a state bonus. This program, launched on December 15, 2025, is designed to benefit cultivators in even the most remote areas by providing direct access to the market and bypassing informal intermediaries. Farmers can expect prompt payments, with funds being transferred to their bank accounts within 48 hours. The state has allocated ₹8.60 crore to facilitate this procurement drive. Technological advancements are central to this year’s operations, featuring an e-procurement portal for farmer registration and appointment booking, alongside upgraded 4G POS machines for faster and more reliable transactions. This move towards digital processing, replacing older 2G systems, is expected to enhance efficiency and transparency. Officials believe this system will not only boost the income of thousands of farmers but also infuse significant strength into the local rural economy, ensuring fair value for their produce.
