
Gadi village in Giridih district is reeling from a deadly encounter with wild elephants that occurred early Monday. A herd of elephants attacked three residents, resulting in the deaths of Shanti Devi and Bodhi Pandit and critical injuries to Sudama Devi.
The victims were reportedly en route to their threshing floors when the wild animals, traversing the landscape, charged at them. Sudama Devi, who survived the onslaught, is currently admitted to a Giridih hospital for urgent medical care.
Local representatives were among the first to reach the scene, confirming the sequence of events. They reported that the elephants trampled Shanti Devi and Bodhi Pandit, while Sudama Devi was violently thrown. Following the incident, the forest department and local police were dispatched to manage the situation.
Giridih’s Divisional Forest Officer stated that preliminary compensation has been disbursed to the grieving families. A specialized team is working diligently to ensure the safe passage of the elephant herd away from human settlements, and the medical team is focused on the recovery of the injured woman. This incident highlights the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region.
