
A cyber cell has arrested a fraudster from Jharkhand who is accused of swindling a Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, student out of 13 lakh rupees through the Free Fire Max game. The student died by suicide due to the blackmailing tactics employed by the fraudsters. Authorities have recovered nearly five lakh rupees from the fraudster’s various accounts and seized assets worth three lakh rupees that were bought using the stolen funds. Moreover, the police had also apprehended another student linked to the criminal group, but he was later released following interrogation and a notice.
The arrest was made at Raj State Muslim Basti in the Ghatshila police station area, located in the Purvi Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The suspect, identified as Sanat Gorai, is a 12th-grade graduate. Gorai used online gaming to trick people and carry out his scams. A 14-year-old class six student from Dhanuwasand village, a victim of Gorai’s fraud, died by suicide on September 15. During the investigation, it was confirmed that the student had been playing Free Fire Max on his mobile phone.
