
A gang rape has occurred in Dumka district, Jharkhand, involving a minor girl from the Paharia community. Five men are in custody following the crime. The victim had gone to meet her boyfriend, who works as a truck cleaner. The crime happened on the Gumra bridge within the Kathikund police station jurisdiction. The victim’s boyfriend was transporting coal and stopped to meet her. During their meeting, the five perpetrators arrived, questioned them, assaulted the couple, and then gang-raped the girl in front of her boyfriend.
Police action resulted in the immediate arrest of the five suspects, and they face charges under the POCSO Act. An in-depth investigation is ongoing, and the victim has undergone a medical examination. This case resonates with an earlier incident in March 2024 in the Hansdiha area of Dumka, where a Spanish woman was gang-raped during her motorcycle world tour. The earlier incident led to the arrest of eight people, underscoring the recurrence of such crimes in the area and the seriousness of the problem.
